Voting opened for the 8th annual Derby Food & Drink Awards on 19th July and when I met with the lovely Saffron & Asad from Marketing Derby earlier today, they had already received around 1750 online nominations with just over a week still to go before the voting closes – that’s already nearly 1000 more than were received in total last year!
The awards celebrate the best of the city’s food & drink offerings and it is evident that the people of Derby are very proud of the establishments they visit by the amount of nominations received. The awards really are going from strength to strength each year
The categories for this years awards are:
Best Out of Town
Derby Telegraph Excellence in Customer Service
Restaurant of the Year
There will also be an Outstanding Achievement award – the winner of this award will be selected by the Food & Drink Awards Steering Group and will be announced at the awards ceremony on 10th October
When voting closes on 19th August (for all categories except the except the Derby Telegraph Excellence in Customer Service which closes on 23rd September) and all of the nominations have been counted, each category will be whittled down to just three finalists. The finalists will be announced on 25th August – keep your eyes open for the articles in the Derby Telegraph and on Twitter – Marketing Derby & Derby Food & Drink Awards
The sponsors of each category will then secretly visit all three of their chosen establishments, and will carry out their judging. It’s refreshing to hear that the judging is based on quality of applicants, not just the amount of votes received. Things such a Trip Advisor reviews and Local Autority Food Hygiene ratings will be taken into account, alongside the usual quality of food, drink & customer service.
The awards will culminate in a ceremony to be held at the Roundhouse in Derby on Monday 10th October, where the winners will be announced – it’s sure to be a great night!
Voting is open from now until 5:00pm on Friday 19th August (for all categories except the except the Derby Telegraph Excellence in Customer Service which closes at 5:00pm on 23rd September) – make your nominations here!
Who will you vote for?!
